Guiseley School Battle of the Bands 2026

A few weeks ago, the Guiseley School Auditorium was flooded with music and applause as over 75 audience members gathered to support four talented student bands in the school's annual Battle of the Bands competition. The evening offered a showcase of youth musicians across Years 8 to 10, bringing together students, parents, and staff for a memorable celebration of creative effort.

Four distinct acts took to the stage during the evening, each offering a unique musical style. The Guests opened the competition with a energetic rendition of Nirvana’s "Smells Like Teen Spirit." They were followed by The Poppies, who presented a rendition of Amy Winehouse’s "Back to Black." The Nettles entertained attendees with their take on "The Way You Look Tonight," based on the version by Mouse Rat, while Horizon closed the competition set with a performance of Blur’s Britpop classic, "Parklife."

Evaluating the evening's performances was a panel of four distinguished judges. Guiseley School English teacher Mr. Lord was joined by former students and musicians Harry Adams and Rosie Weston, as well as West End performer Paul Dale-Vickers. The panel commended the musicianship, preparation, and stage presence demonstrated by all participants.

Every group that competed gained recognition for their efforts. All four participating bands were awarded a recording session in the Guiseley School recording studio. The runners-up received dedicated practice time in an external rehearsal space, while the overall winners earned a band workshop alongside the opportunity to represent Guiseley School at the upcoming Red Kite Battle of the Bands competition.

School organisers expressed sincere gratitude to AM Music School in Guiseley, who generously donated both the rehearsal time and the winner's workshop. The partnership with local organisations continues to play a valuable role in supporting young talent within the local area.

The production was supported behind the scenes by a team of student photographers and technical crew members. Notably, two Year 8 students successfully managed the lighting and sound operations independently for the first time, ensuring the stage performances ran smoothly throughout the evening.

Special recognition was also given to student photographer Thomas, whose images documented the event.

The event concluded with warm congratulations extended to all performers, technical crew, and organising staff for their contributions to a successful evening.
