Year 9 students Alethea and Charlie have achieved remarkable success after representing their respective nations at the prestigious Junior Home International 2026 in Scotland over the weekend.
Both Alethea and Charlie are dedicated orienteers with local club AIRE and regularly hone their skills training with the Yorkshire and Humberside Junior Orienteering Squad. Their months of hard work and commitment paid off when both earned coveted selections to compete at the national level.
The adventure began on Friday as the duo set off by train, catching up with fellow competitors along the route north. Despite facing unexpected rail delays, both athletes arrived safely in Scotland, fully focused and ready for a demanding weekend of competition.
Saturday kicked off with the individual races against a fierce field of young talent. Alethea delivered an outstanding performance to claim an incredible 2nd place overall for England, while Charlie put in a strong, determined run to secure 13th place representing Wales.
The momentum continued into Sunday's relay events, where Alethea anchored another brilliant performance, helping her team push through to lock in a 2nd place finish.
We extend our huge congratulations to both Alethea and Charlie on their brilliant performances and wish them the best of luck in their upcoming orienteering events!
