We've had a lot of buzz around our Jazz Night this year, hosted at Guiseley Theatre. Due to a completely sold out show last year, we wanted to give the option of a bigger venue for what would be our Year 13's last show with us before they go onto Post-18 education. Multiple articles have been posted across Yorkshire Evening Post, The Ilkley Gazette and Telegraph and Argus (and many more!). This event even got mentioned on Radio Leeds!
A packed auditorium rivalling last year’s numbers heard two different 45-minute sets comprising of mostly new material, all arranged by Y13 student, Leo. The audience enjoyed instrumental numbers, songs including vocals by the band’s flautist, Eva, and saxophonist, Matilda.
The event was supported by a duo of student technicians who ensured the audience heard all the instrumental intricacies and provided atmospheric lighting to finesse the event.
We are sad to see 50% of our Jazz Band leave Guiseley School for higher education this year – the event was an outstanding finale to their time at Guiseley School.
When asked for a statement, our Head of Music, Jack Stote, had this to say: “To entrust a student body to rehearse two sets of music, set up all sound equipment in an unfamiliar environment, use unfamiliar lighting equipment and deliver a professional-standard performance is not something every Music Faculty Lead has the privilege of being able to do. My pride for our students is off the charts. To our Y13 leavers, I’ll forever be indebted to your talents and commitment to the music department!”
The event was supported by a duo of student technicians who ensured the audience heard all the instrumental intricacies and provided atmospheric lighting to finesse the event. Not afraid of additional challenge, our student lighting engineer (Thomas E) zipped around the venue photographing the event whilst controlling lights on the move! Impressed isn't even the word! Thank you Thomas.
We would like to give a final thank you to our Year 13s. Over the years you really have shown us exactly what Being Guiseley is all about.
