Guiseley School Students Succeed at Leeds Rotary Technology Competition

On Tuesday, March 10th, the Technology department took four teams of students to the John Charles Centre to compete in the annual Leeds Rotary Club Technology Tournament. The group consisted of two teams from Year 9 and two from Year 10.

The competition challenged students to work as engineering teams to design and build a bridge with a specific requirement: it had to span a wide gap and feature a functional drawbridge.

The Design Process

Working within a set timeframe, students were provided with a variety of tools and materials. They were required to manage the entire project independently, producing both a physical final model and a design portfolio that documented their planning and technical thinking.

Following a period of testing and refining their prototypes, the teams presented their work for judging alongside other schools from across the region.

Award Recognition

Congratulations go to the Year 10 intermediate team - Hannah, Rowan, Stan, and Jacob - who won their age category. The team was presented with a trophy by the Lord Mayor in recognition of their achievement and the quality of their engineering solution.

Guiseley School is very proud of all the students involved for their hard work and teamwork throughout the day.

Well done to all the participants from Team Guiseley. We look forward to returning next year.
