We are delighted to celebrate the recent outstanding achievements of two of our students, Evie A (Year 7) and Ted W (Year 7), who have excelled in competitive swimming. Both students train in the same elite squad at the City of Leeds Swimming Club (COLSC).
Evie, a dedicated member of the COLSC National Age Group Squad, trains intensely, up to eight times a week. Her commitment recently culminated in significant success at the National Junior Inter-League Grand Final in Corby. Competing with the COLSC team, Evie achieved a personal triumph by winning her individual race, and she played a vital role in helping the team secure the overall top trophy as National Junior Inter-League Champions!
Ted, also in Year 7, was a crucial part of the successful COLSC team at the Grand Final. Competing in four races, two individual and two relays, Ted delivered a fantastic performance, which led to him receiving the prestigious ‘Top Boy’ award for securing the most points/wins, contributing significantly to the team's overall victory.
Regional and National Success
Earlier this month, both Evie and Ted competed at the North East England Regional Swim Championships (NERs) at Ponds Forge, Sheffield. Evie earned a Gold medal in the 50m backstroke and a Silver in the 100m backstroke. Ted had a phenomenal meet, winning 8 medals overall: 3 Gold, 2 Silver, and 3 Bronze.
Furthermore, Ted is currently ranked in the top 5 in Great Britain for the 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke events, and is ranked 2nd in the country for 1500m freestyle. The aim is to maintain a top-5 ranking, which would secure him an invitation to the English Nationals for 12-year-olds this summer.
Remarkable Commitment
The level of commitment displayed by these students, training early mornings, evenings, and weekends while still managing their educational requirements, is phenomenal. We are incredibly proud of their dedication.
These exceptional performances, which include Evie’s current North East England title and her status as one half of the 2025 Yorkshire Open Water 2km champions (alongside George R, Year 8), highlight the potential for a formidable Guiseley High School team should the school enter future English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) National swim meets.
We look forward to sharing a photo of Evie and Ted from the upcoming medal ceremony in a future update!
(We are also showcasing Ted's recent NERs medal haul and a couple of memorable moments from last year, including his breaststroke win against Archie Goodburn at ‘Sprint with the Stars’ and his interview with Adam Peaty.)
